Indigenous Artist

Kwe', my name is Samantha (Samm) Garnier, I am from a Mi'kmaq community called St. George's, Newfoundland and have also spent time on both Oromocto First Nation and St. Mary's First Nation in New Brunswick. I am a mom of beautiful boy/girl twins who will be 8 in October. I am currently working at People of The Dawn Indigenous Friendship Centre (PDIFC) as a Gender Based Violence Policy Coordinator to build capacity within our workplace on how we address women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people who come in and are experiencing GBV. I'm an Indigenous artist who beads, draws, paints, sews ribbon skirts/shirts, and have facilitated several workshops such as drum making, moccasins, rattles, medicine bags, etc. I also carry songs in our community and have sang for several cultural and provincial events as well as graduation ceremonies at the college in our community. I have worked on event planning at PDIFC for our annual Sweetgrass Festival which brought in such artists as Jason Benoit and Silver Wolf Band, as well as our Truth & Reconciliation Day events and National Indigenous Peoples Day events.
