Raven Mother is the latest choreographic work by the Dancers of Damelahamid company, created in tribute to Margaret Harris (1931-2020), a Cree personality who had an immense impact on Indigenous performing arts. This show highlights her immense influence on the revitalization of First Nations dance, as well as her crucial role in preserving and transmitting cultural knowledge.
This production is the company's most ambitious to date. Raven Mother intertwines movement, song, insignia of power, sculpture, and design in an embodied narrative. The Raven totem, represented in multiple forms, symbolizes transformation, cultural strengthening, and the emergence of a new spirit.
A co-presentation of La Rotonde and the Grand Théâtre de Québec in collaboration with KWE! À la rencontre des peuples autochtones.
