It’s that time of year again!
Join us at the 22nd annual Weesageechak Begins to Dance Festival of New Works. Audiences are invited into the process for four days of works in development. Festival program includes:
January 27th
8pm – Land of the Living by Michael Greyeyes
Four characters churn through their final moments on earth, struggling to find meaning, to reconcile fears and desires, before they travel to the Land of the Dead. New, visceral, athletic work from acclaimed artist Michael Greyeyes.
8:30pm – Gathering Light by Michelle Olson
From seed to flower, from girl to young woman, from structures that do not support our own truths to ceremonies that support our full bloom, Gathering Light explores female fulfillment. From the choreographer of Death of A Chief, Evening in Paris, and Raven Restores the Sun to the Sky, new dance, and a new vision.
January 28th
8pm – Sunset Road by Miria George
From Aotearoa, our Maori relations return with Miria George’s new play, Sunset Road. Under the direction of Hone Kouka, Sunset Road examines the bonds of blood, land and belonging.
January 29th
8pm – Young Voices/Harvest Showcase
The hottest night of the Festival, this year’s edition features new work by PJ Prudat, Erin Dickson, Waawaate Fobister, Falen Johnson, Ryan Cunningham, Melinda Jane Stepnowich, Aaron Shingoose and Lacey Eninew. Meet the future of Aboriginal theatre.
