New work by Michelle Olson of Raven Spirit Dance

New work by Michelle Olson of Raven Spirit Dance

Raven Spirit’s training and mentorship activities are formulated with the intent of providing artists the opportunity to make work in the creative field, as cultural workers fully invested in communicating, creating, performing and disseminating work as broadly as possible. The intent is to develop training opportunities for the emerging Indigenous community of artists, address break between the professional realm and training programs, foster the creation of critical skills, and ultimately work towards a stronger community and better developed pool of performers.

 April 8-24: Giiwedin

Giiwedin

Giiwedin

“Dig! Cut! Throw away! That’s progress on display!”

Graduating from being an adventurous Young Voices presentation to one of the most ambitious productions in Native Earth’s history, Giiwedin is a new opera written in Anishnawbe Mowin, French and English. Penned by Algonquin playwright Spy Dénommé-Welch, it tells the story of a 150-year old Aboriginal woman fighting for her land. This tour-de-force combination of powerful lyrics and world-class composition is a testament to the promise of Aboriginal theatre.
